Twisted wire pairs are often used to carry signals. By having two wires running together interference pick up can be minimised. One of the easiest and neatest ways of keeping them together is to twist them together. If done manually this can become very uneven and look very untidy. However if they are wound together properly then they can look much neater and the winding is very even.
It is relatively easy to make a very neat job of making a twisted pair set of wires: First cut two wires of the same length, and preferably different colours. This enables the wires to be identified later. One end of each wire should be clamped firmly in a vice. The other end of each wire is placed into the bit of a hand drill. Once secured, the hand drill is turned. This should be done so that slightly more twist is applied to the wires than is required. The extra twists are put in because the wire relaxes after the wires are removed from the drill and vice, and they untwist slightly.
